First Trip to the Dentist

I took Andrew to the Dentist for the very first time the other day. I was nervous because I know how easy it is to have a fear of the dentist. I wanted to make sure he had a pleasant experience so I drove 45 minutes away to take him to good Dentist. When we walked into the office it looked like we were underwater because the walls were painted like blue ocean waves! It was so cute. They even had a boat with a big pirates wheel on it. Andrew kept saying "I'm searching for mermaids!" His name was called pretty quickly and we went back to only be welcomed into what I consider the best dentist office on earth! It was set up much like the front except it was a beach theme. There was a picnic table with a straw umbrella and a huge crayon box on the table for the kids to sit and color or play. There was the bird that you take a picture with if you don't have any cavities, and there were toys near the goody bag corner that they could play with. The hygientist took him over to the sink and let him pick out a "cool" new toothbrush and he started brushing his teeth. Then she showed him everything they were going to do. How they would count his teeth, give them a shower, polish them up with the polisher and even use the tooth paste flavor of his choice (cotton candy) to finish everything up!
After he picked out a pair of sunglasses to keep the light out of his eyes, the exam started. It turned out pretty well and there were only two minor things that came up. He had two cavities that were fairly new on the top two teeth in the back of his mouth. He also had two skin tags his bottom gums. They haven't been giving him pain and I hadn't seen them before so she said he should be alright. As long as they aren't discolored or starting to look infected they'll be fine. If any of those things do happen, he'll have to have them biopsied to make sure it isn't anything serious. They had an open time slot and were able to fill his cavities right away! I came back from the front desk and they had already set him up to get his cavities filled. Because they caught them early, he didn't have to get any novicaine, just a little "oxygen". That oxygen went straight to his head! He had the older kids coming over to sit in the chair next to him because he was putting on one heck of a comedy routine! He was laughing and singing and talking about the stickers on the cieling. It was pure comedy! The staff was laughing at me because I was in tears from laughing so much.

Andrew was so brave and I was very proud of him! He followed all of the dentists instructions and didn't cry at all. He would flinch if he heard a new noise but other than that all was well. He even answered their questions with his mouth propped open when they asked! Again, it was the funniest thing I've ever seen. When we were getting ready to leave, they all said good bye to him and he asked them for...... a piece of candy! My poor boy didn't even realize, he was at the wrong office for that!

The End!

OMG - he is the cutest little patient ever!! I'm glad you guys had such a great experience at the dentist. I am such a wimp... I have made 3 appointments for Ava and cancelled all 3. Maybe I should just fly out and try Andrew's dentist? Looks like fun!
